A Black Canyon Inn Wedding with Rocky Mountain Views

Some wedding days keep you guessing right up until the last minute… and Hayley and Daniel’s July 27th wedding at Black Canyon Inn’s Boulders Lodge in Estes Park did exactly that. Rain moved us inside almost immediately following the first look, but the sky cleared just before the ceremony, and Boulders Lodge’s massive doors opened right on cue for an outdoor cocktail hour with the Rocky Mountains as the backdrop. It was the kind of weather turnaround that makes you believe a wedding day always has a way of working itself out.

The Details: His and Hers, Down to the Watches

The morning started with a classic his-and-hers flat lay. Matching vow books, wedding bands, and two wristwatches side by side. These details were perfectly curated, and set the scene for the day perfectly. Hayley’s mom and grandma helped her into her gown before the first look.

A First Look at the Pond

Hayley and Daniel wanted the party to start immediately after the ceremony, so it was important to them to share a first look prior to the ceremony, and knock out some family and bridal party portraits as well. Black Canyon Inn wedding days are notorious for the stunning portraits at the pond and boulders, so we had to take advantage of that beautiful scenery! Right as we finished up family portraits, the rain started pouring, and we rushed back up to the Boulders!

The Ceremony: Rain, Then Sunshine, Right on Cue

Rain had pushed family portraits indoors just 30 minutes earlier, but as the ceremony approached, the sky cleared. Boulder Lodge’s floor-to-ceiling doors were opened to reveal the Rockies in full view, and Hayley and Daniel exchanged vows with rose petals scattered down the aisle by her Grandma Carole and the mountains rising just beyond the railing.

Portraits: Rocky Overlooks and Epic Views

Once the ceremony wrapped, Hayley and Daniel headed out onto Black Canyon Inn’s property for a few more portraits since the rain had interfered earlier in the day.

The Reception: A Live Band and an Open-Air Cocktail Hour

With the doors thrown open after the rain cleared, cocktail hour spilled out onto the deck with mountain views on full display. Inside, the band Northwoods kept the guests having fun all night, with colorful stage lighting and great energy!

Pro Tip: booking a live band instead of just a DJ adds a different kind of energy to a mountain reception. Ask your venue about their stage setup when touring.

The Send-Off: Bubbles Under the Chandeliers

As the night wound down, guests lined up with bubbles for one last kiss goodbye beneath Boulders Lodge’s statement chandeliers, for a sparkling, joyful close to a day that turned out perfectly after all.
