Zion Canyon Overlook is one of our most requested destination portrait locations, and I get asked a few questions ALL of the time. So… here are my FAQ’s and all of the info you need to know!
- Length of the Hike:
Please be aware that reaching the Zion Canyon Overlook requires a moderate hike of approximately 1 mile each way. The trail can be steep and uneven at times, so it’s essential to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a bit of a workout (but, I can do this hike pretty easily, and I don’t workout). 😉 - What to Wear:
As a general rule, it’s best to wear outfits that make you feel comfortable and reflect your personal style. We usually recommend choosing two outfits-one that is more formal, and one that is more casual. Keep in mind that we’ll be in a red rock outdoor setting, so earthy tones and flowy fabrics often work well. Consider dressing up a bit to complement the epic scenery, but make sure you can move freely and comfortably during the hike. - Changing at the Top:
To ensure you have a comfortable space to change outfits at the top, we have a pop up changing up specifically so you can hike in comfy clothes, and then change into your portrait clothes. The tent is super private, and isn’t a hassle to bring up, plus it makes the whole experience so much easier! - Essentials to Bring:
Water, sunscreen, any props or accessories you want to incorporate in the photos (e.g., hats, signs, flowers, etc.), anything necessary for hair & makeup touchups. - Arrival Time:
We plan with all of our clients to meet at the trailhead 30 minutes before the designated start time of the shoot. This allows us to go over any last-minute details and ensure we have enough time to hike to the overlook in time for the perfect light!
