Some couples travel across state lines to find the perfect backdrop for their wedding day, and Micaela and Oscar did exactly that. They came all the way from Texas to say their vows at The Barn at Sunset Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado, with the Collegiate Peaks rising dramatically behind their ceremony arch. Their day leaned into a soft, pastel theme throughout, along with sweet personal touches honoring their dogs and a friendly football rivalry that made its way all the way into the cake.
If a Colorado mountain wedding or a destination venue like The Barn at Sunset Ranch is on your list, this real wedding is full of ideas worth pinning.

It was important to Micaela and Oscar that they were able to feel present on their wedding day, so they opted to do formal portraits prior to the ceremony. They also wanted to wait to share their first look until the aisle… so we kept portrait time separate ahead of the ceremony, BUT we squeezed in SO much fun. Micaela and Oscar set the scene perfectly with thoughtful private vows, followed by icing their bridal party.

Micaela walked down a wooden aisle on her father’s arm, toward a rustic wooden arch dressed simply in blush and peach florals. Lavender bridesmaid dresses and tan suits for the groomsmen kept the palette soft against the wide-open Colorado sky, and the ceremony closed with Micaela and Oscar’s first kiss as husband and wife, wedding party cheering and bouquets raised all around them.

Out in the open grasslands surrounding the ranch, Micaela and Oscar took portraits among wildflowers and cottonwood trees with the mountains stretching out behind them, along with the classic Barn at Sunset Ranch barn-door portrait that leans into the property’s rustic charm.

As expected, Micaela and Oscar kept the party going all night long, from everyone dancing to throwing a football with a gift card attached in lieu of the garter.

Micaela and Oscar’s day is proof that a destination wedding can still feel completely personal, from the mountains behind them to the little details that were only theirs. If you’re planning a wedding at The Barn at Sunset Ranch, elsewhere in Colorado, or anywhere in Utah, I’d love to help you capture it.
